Writing Prayers For Our Earth

"Humanity is being taken to the point where it will have to choose between suicide or adoration."

~Teilhard de Chardin~

Are you concerned about Our Earth?
Wonder how you can help?

Many things are needed to help our Earth as we reach dangerous levels of warming, which are being felt around the world. Climate change/climate destruction is one of many ways human beings cause harm to our world and to all who live here, human and non-human.

In these times, it’s easy to fall into despair. Yet when we come together and use our creative energies to write prayers for the healing we long for, our hearts open and possibilities arise.  We change the fabric of our world, by writing and offering prayers in our own words.

Grandfather,

Look at our brokenness.

We know that in all creation

Only the human family

Has strayed from the Sacred Way.

We know that we are the ones

Who are divided

And we are the ones

Who must come back together

To walk in the Sacred way.

Grandfather,

Sacred One,

Teach us love, compassion, and honor

That we may heal the earth

And heal each other.

---Ojibway Prayer

I first offered Writing Prayers For The Earth in 2010 in response to a call from Lakota Elders for us to pray for Mother Earth after a major oil spill.  I revived them in the summer of 2023, the hottest summer on record.

In December 2023, The Koji Nation delivered this message From The Mother:

Since watching this video, I  offer Writing Prayers For The Earth with an even deeper commitment.   Our prayers matter to the rivers, the oak trees, the polar bears who are losing their habitat, the human ones who are suffering because of floods or drought or fire.

Life is sacred and the more we remember that, the more we restore the sacred to our world.

I believe Mother Earth is a living being and  she responds to our prayers.   When we call upon Spirit we are guided to know what actions to take toward the healing, repair and transformation so needed in our times.

How will we pray?

To pray you open your whole self

To sky, to earth, to sun, to moon

To one whole voice that is you.

---Joy Harjo

There are many kinds of prayer, many ways to pray.

Writing Prayers For Our Earth is inspired by what I have learned from Dr. Joe Dispenza and Greg Bradden about the transformative power of praying as if your prayer has already been answered.  These teachings compliment beautifully with the practice of affirmative prayer.  Our time together will combine those teachings as we write and offer prayers for the Earth.

How it works:  we connect with the force of Infinite Intelligence that is the Source of Life.  We open our hearts to the visions that we want—not our fears of what might come to pass.

We create prayers of healing visions and offer them with love and gratitude to the Living Intelligence that is the Earth herself.

Thus, our prayers become a healing force.   We are creating more energy for the healing direction we all want to see manifest.

You will be strengthened by these prayers and the Earth and all life on Earth will be strengthened.

Each person writes their own prayer, yet when we come together in a Sacred Circle, it’s as if we create one prayer collectively.

We will offer our prayers directly to the Earth, to be a force of healing, for the benefit of all life.

What happens in Writing Prayers For Our Earth Circles?

Each gathering is held as a Ceremony for healing.

We join together to create a Sacred Circle where we write prayers to help heal all life on Earth.

Each gathering is an opportunity for you to write a prayer in your own words.

Giving voice to the deepest prayers of your heart is healing, empowering and rejuvenating.

You’ll be uplifted out of your own fear and despair and reminded again of what is possible for humanity in these challenging, transformational times.

A sense of community forms as we come together with others who care deeply about the future of our world.

What past participants have said about Writing Prayers For Our Earth:

“There’s a peace in these circles….I always go away with a hopeful feeling that we can change the world, that our hearts can help change other people’s hearts through our writing.”

~Linda An,  Columbus, Ohio~

“Being here makes me feel hopeful about humans---to see the good side, the caring side, the prayerful side of human beings, makes me feel that we have the ability to be here for each other and the earth.”

~Laurie Pollack,  Lansdowne, PA~

To Be Held

  ---Linda Hogan---

To be held

by the light

was what I wanted,

to be a tree drinking the rain,

no longer parched in this hot land.

To be roots in a tunnel growing

but also to be sheltering the inborn leaves

and the green slide of mineral

down the immense distances

into infinite comfort

and the land here, only clay,

still contains and consumes

the thirsty need

the way a tree always shelters the unborn life

waiting for the healing

after the storm

which has been our life.

Debora Seidman is an award winning playwright and poet who has been teaching writing as a spiritual, healing practice since 1996. She’s a writing coach and teaches writing workshops that integrate mind, body and spirit.

She cares deeply about people who long to write with their true power but have been blocked by old fears and traumas that keep them silent.

Her specialty is working work with women who know they want to write, but don't believe in themselves enough to go for their writing dreams. In her signature program,  Trust Your Voice, she helps women uncover the root of what holds them back, so they are freed to trust their own voice and write what matters most.

Writing Prayers For Our Earth is one of the ways she’s called to contribute to the healing and transformation needed in these times.
